The Closing Celebration Worship Service for the 5th Global Assembly in Hong Kong was Glorious!

God saved the best for the last evening worship service at the Wing Kwong Pentecostal Holiness Church in Hong Kong.

The Wing Kwong Church was packed with joyful and excited people who were ready for worship. I observed the Chinese people both young and old entering into worship with enthusiasm and an expectation of experiencing the presence of God.

The great choir of men and women was magnificent. The ladies were dressed in red dresses, and the men were dressed in black trousers and vests with white shirts. A gifted and talented worship team led by Jennifer Kwok got us all involved in singing praises to Jesus. Jennifer has the voice, the enthusiasm, and spirit to engage a congregation meaningful and joyful worship in singing.

There were four adorable Chinese children, two boys and two girls that had been trained to sing and their movements were choreographed to perfection. They sang with all their hearts and inspired us to do likewise.

Gordon McDonald, the Bishop and General Superintendent of the Pentecostal Holiness Church of Canada was at his best. I call Gordon “the Dan Betzer of the IPHC.” Dan Betzer used to be the radio preacher for the Assemblies of God national radio broadcast. If you close your eyes when Gordon McDonald speaks you might think it is the voice of Dan Betzer.

He gave a great tribute to Bishop Doug Beacham. He said he is a Pentecostal leader who is respected by leaders of other evangelical and Pentecostal denominations. He said that when Doug speaks leaders of these denominations listen for he not only has the voice to be heard, but has something of value to say.

Gordon reminded us of the speech by Ted Kennedy at the funeral service for his brother, Robert or Bobby Kennedy. Here is the quote:

“Some men see things as they are and say why. I dream things that never were and say why not.” We need to dream of what can be, and work to make it come true.

He told about being on an elevator in a tall building in Vancouver, British Columbia. He was in the elevator by himself going to one of the top floors on business. The elevator stopped on the second floor and a not-so impressive woman got on the elevator, but had on the most wonderful smelling perfume he had every smelled. What an aroma it was. It filled the elevator. She got off, but the aroma lingered as the elevator climber higher and higher. He suggested that wherever Pentecostals go in the world they should leave an aroma of Jesus wherever they are.

Bishop Doug Beacham preached on “Embracing the Fullness of Pentecost.” I will not try to describe it here early this morning. I need to get to bed because I need sleep and rest as we will be flying on Saturday to Beijing, China.

I would like to encourage you to go to the IPHC website: www.iphc.org to see and hear this powerful message on the fullness of Pentecost. Bishop Beacham is encouraging all IPHC pastors to preach a message on the promise and power of Pentecost on Pentecost Sunday that is coming up in a few weeks.

Bishop Beacham gave commemorative plates with the photo of the Wing Kwong Church to several leaders involved in the planning of this global assembly. He gave a goal plated one to Donaan Ng. It was his dream and desire to make this one the best ever. We honor Donavan Ng. I observed that the Chinese people in the Wing Kwong love and respect their leader.

We had communion. They must have had 300 trays of communion cups with waffers inserted. They had their elders, a whole host of them, to serve the entire congregation. It was fast, efficient, even copacetic. We have a lot to learn from them.

The Chinese people are wonderful people.

The next Global Assembly will be in Chili in 2019.
